How do I get rid of moss/lichen type stuff on my patio? It makes it really slippery when wet?

I have a flagstone patio, and there is some kind of moss/lichen type stuff growing on it...just randomly, not only in areas where water stands or it's shady or whatever. It's everywhere, but it makes the patio look dirty, and when it rains, there are these really slippery spots, and I don't want anyone to fall off, as one side of the patio is over a small incline where my air conditioner is that is fairly steep until you hit my concrete driveway. Does anyone have any home remedies for getting rid of this? I'd rather not use weed killer or anything, because I have desirable plants around the patio and I don't want some indescirminate plant killer to wash off and kill my hostas and lilies. Thanks!

The best remidy i can think of is to use bleach to kill it then have it pressure washed and at least 2 applications of a premium sealer. This area is probably on the north side of your house or shaded by trees and dosent get much sunlight.
Reply:Pour boiling water over it.
Reply:The first poster got it right. But you should check your drainage to get water to stop draining over the area that ggets the lichen. That will stop it's growth.
