I was given a fish vase/plant combo (minus the fish). Now the plant is dying. Can it be transplanted?

It is one of those beta-vase aquariums with the plant on top. It was given to me about 10 mo. ago by someone who was moving. The fish had already died. I have added water to the vase, but don't know what else to do. Can it be transplanted into soil, or is it a water-only plant? I've tried to research online, but haven't found much help. I don't think it's a peace lily, but I'm not sure what type of plant it is. Any input would be appreciated!

Without knowing the type of plant, I would say it may be better off in the water, because transplanting it may be worse off and more stressful for the plant. Especially if it is starting to wilt.
Reply:I think that if you took it out, sprayed the gunk off of roots, then put it back in fresh water and changed the water every couple days it would come back to life. If the water isn't changed often, the oxygen runs out, and the roots die.
Reply:If it's dying anyway, why not try?

You can always buy a new plant, or just get flowers for the vase.

Chances are, it'll perk up nicely in some potting soil.

Good luck.
