My cottage is on South Commerce Lake, MI. I always bass fish around lily pads and always see these huge carp swimming around there. I want one so bad. last time i went up there i tried throwing some bread on top of the water and they wouldnt take it. It was really windy and their was a cold front passing through. How can i catch these things? Baits, rigs, time of day, where?????? HELP PLEASE?????

Carp fishing ?????? HELP!!!!!!!?
corn and dough baits have always worked for me. I use canned whole corn (yellow) on a #4 long shank hook with the smallest weight I can use. I like finesse/bell sinkers so the line can move freely through the eye of the weight. I do buy dough bait, I make my own. It is very simple. you need a couple cups of corn flakes, strawberry kool-aid, some oatmeal (raw). crush the corn flakes up add the strawberry kool-aid (no water). Add big red until it is a little soupy. mix well. Add oatmeal, a little at a time, until you can form a firm doughball with most of the mixture. Put this in a ziplock bag and place in the fridge until you are ready to fish. I use the same hook are a #4 treble hook with dough bait same weight, if ant at all. Take a piece of the dough ball big enough to cover the entire hook ball it up around the hook tightly and hold on to your rod. You can bait the area your going to be fishing a couple of times with cans of corn are dry catfood scattered around the area your going to fish. good luck
Reply:night crawlers work
Reply:OOOOH! I'm good at catching those things! I get a hook, heavy line, and a stiff pole...then I put 1 fireball on the hook...then a kernal of corn, then another fireball. Works every time!
Reply:bread , dough balls , corn all work great
Reply:Catch a fish, clean the scales off of it and cut a piece and put on your hook, add a little marshmallow for a float and go deep and let it sit while teasing your line, reel in a lunker, they are sort of dumb to catch, they fight like crazy for a few seconds and then play dead, like reeling in a refrigerator.
Reply:All good answers. I just wanted to add that snagging isnt legal everywhere so check your local regs to make sure its ok. You dont wanna get busted, have to pay a fine and get your fishing privileges taken away. Plus in my opinion its much more fun to actually catch it rather then snagging it. Snagging isnt real fishing.

Good luck!

Also thanks for the doughball recipe Laidbck...i might try that!
Reply:sweet corn out of the can or off the cob is good. also worms ,crayfish, home made dough balls (sorry, don't have or know where to get recipes)
Reply:corn and dough balls is wat i use first....but if they fail i use a snaging hook. if u dont know how to use them, all u do is put a weight on up high. clamp weight. and then put on a snaggin hook (verry large trebble hook) and then just let the wieght over the fish(dont touch the fish with the weight, u would scare it) and then let it sink for a second and pull really realy realy hard. then u hav ya a carp. (this also works with gar although they bite anything.) good luck
Reply:i like using arunning rig. just an eggsinker on the line then add a plastic bead and then a swivel. attach a size 6 eagle claw pretied leader to the swivel. and then i add 3-4 kernals of canned sweet corn (whole kernal).
