Varigated Rubber Plant Needs some expert help?

I got a varagated Rubber Plant at my mother's Funeral. I took it thinking to try to attempt to keep in in honor of her. I took a Peace Lily and a Cyclymin... I am not good with plants. 2 of the 3 I took home have died. The Rubber plant has been doing GREAT till now... Its getting some cracks on the leaves, a few bumps, and a couple dead spots on the bottom leaves. I have it in sunshine, inside since I live in MN, I water it only when the dirt is dry, I wash off the leaves with filtered water once a week and talk to it. I even gave him a name. Little Rubber Dude. What am I doing wrong or what can I do to help him I dont want it to die on me too.

Rubber trees prefer to be where they'll receive bright light, but they don't like being in direct sunlight. Move it away from the window a bit. Rubber plants don't like being moved either, but it will be happier if it's not right in front of a sunny window.

During the spring and summer, while the plant is actively growing, they like their soil to be evenly moist. Not soggy, just moist. The rest of the year they'd rather that their soil is slightly on the dry side. Too much water will cause a rubber tree's leaves to turn yellow and drop.

They do like to have their leaves sponged off, so you're doing good there.
Reply:Rubber tree's like for the soil to be moist. Not soaking wet, but moist. Water it at least once every two weeks in the winter months and once a week in the hotter months.

If the leaves are turning brown, then it is not getting enough water. If they turn yellow then it is getting too much water.

They do shed leaves from time to time, so don't let that scare you. After a while, it will get spindly looking at the bottom of the stalk. You can cut it off at one of the nodes and stick it in the moist soil and it will root a new plant. Rubber tree's are one of the easiet plants to start new ones from.

If it hasn't been too long since the peace lilly died, then try watering it. They like moist to wet soil.

Rubber tree wants indirect sun, peace lilly wants almost no sun to indirect sun.
Reply:call the shop where it came from and ask them what to do to save it and keep it healthy. they should know what to do for it.

(by the way, he might not like his name)

why not call him Viper?

V and I from varigated and P from plant and ER from rubber? maybe he will like that better?
Reply:think you'd better get yourself a book on plants.

my sister and i destroyed our rubber plant when we were young- kept ripping bits of it to watch the white thick sap ooze out!

maybe ite too warm and dry in your house. try mist spraying it every day.

not sure that they like direct sunlight either.

does it need re potting or feeding?
