Can someone help me scan a poem for assonance?

Capitilize the examples of assonance (the repetition of vowel sounds)

Slap. Clap.

The lake's back

laps the flat

boat. Croak,

goes a frog,

croak. Flo-

tillas of vanilla

water lilies

float. Moats

of air flare,

filled with day diamonds,

flame. Tame

turtles lurch

like dreadnoughts

across murky

floors. Oars

dig dingles

in the sun-shingles

roof of the water.

Pines shine,

singing their green creeds.

Assonance is the repetition of vowel sounds in a poem. So in this poem most lines have vowel sounds that repeat. Sometimes it is the sound of a long vowel, and sometimes a short vowel.

In this poem you have the words boat, croak, goes, flotilla, float, and moats all with the long O sound.

Day, flame, and tame all have long A.

Slap, clap, back, lap and flat all have short A

Floors, oars

turtles, lurch, murky

dig, dingles, shingles

pines, shine

green, creeds.

I hope this helps. Best of luck.
Reply:cant you find it just by reading it and seeing which ones rhyme? might be wrong hto.

Depending what your teacher wants, these also have the same vowel sound: Fr*O*g, dreadn*OU*ghts, acr*O*ss, w*A*ter. Also "of" and "sun." Please ask. I don't think your teacher expects you to mark every "the" and "a" as vowels in between, but it's better to ask. At the very least, it will show an effort to study this in detail.
