How to care for aquarium plants?

I have a 29 gallon aquarium and i planted bulb seeds in my tank. its been for weeks now and they have grown over 1 feet tall. my tank has 6 tiger barbs and i dont know how to care for them.

my ph is pretty high but its the right ph for tiger barbs to tolerate.

a leaf on one of the plants has reached the top of the water and is now like a floating lily.

Do i inject Co2?

what do i do about water changes? if the water goes down can the floating lily's stem handle it? what do i do?

what about fertilizer?

How to care for aquarium plants?
It depends on how many you planted. If you only have a couple of plants then no you do not NEED co2 or fertilizer though it would be beneficial to them. 6 babrs do not produce a lot of co2 but thats ok. Plants generally prefer to use amonia as a food source then they use nitrite then nitrate. If you want to know more here is a good site for this aspect (it's an overview of a very good book- Ecology of the Planted Aquarium) http://www.bilyap.com.tr/magazin/mag3/co...

The stem of the lily should be fine during water changes. It will just move around as long as you don't drain too much at one time. Water changes also provide co2 and other nutrients that plants need so try doing a 10-15% change a week.

Different plants have diferent requirements so i would recomend doing some research on the individual plants you might buy in the future.
Reply:How much light is your plants getting everyday? You can try putting some limestone or shells into your tank that will help with the pH, Co2 can be helpful, give it a go and see what happens, tiger barbs are ok but will only ever tolerate other barbs as they are a aggressive fish and will kill other breeds.
