Can a beta live in just plain water?

or does it need a filter pump thing or a peace lily?





cause i need to throw out my peace lily thats in the bowl right now and i was just seeing if my fish will be able to survive without the pump or lily

Can a beta live in just plain water?
Bettas can live without filters, however, you will need to be extra dilligent about water conditions, water changes and tank cleanliness with the absence of a filter. As long as the fish is fed and the temp is consistent the fish should be fine.
Reply:I have kept my beta alive for 2 years now without a pump and without a filter. Just in a basic bowl. Don't use dechlorinated tap water-- it's better to go to the grocery store and buy filtered water in gallons (less than 50 cents!). Tap water, even if it's dechlorinated, tends to cause bad bacteria in the bowl.

Reply:yup it will be fine -- you need to change the water a couple times a week. make sure you get a good water conditioner.



if you want a plant that will actaully live in there try a philodendron vine -- the ones with heart shaped leaves. you can make cuttings and put them in the water and they work better than the peace lily.



i would recommend you get a 2 1/2 gallon bowl and make him more of a pet than a decoration though.
