What fish can be kept in a fish bowl?

I know a beta can, as long as it's properly cleaned, has the water lily, and light. I heard it's not good for goldfish, as they are nasty (myth?) What other fish can live in a bowl. Mom won't buy an aquarium and my money is going to getting my Chihuahua spayed, vaccinated, my other Chihuahua neutered, my Pomeranian vaccinated and spayed, and my rabit getting neutered, so I have to save money. I think it's worth the spending to get them spayed though.

2) A betta CAN'T. Well, it can, but it will be sickly, listless, and die young. Bettas require very warm water and it's near impossible to keep a bowl's temperature stable.



3) A goldfish CAN'T. Because "they're nasty" isn't technically the reason, though I can see why people say that. :) The reason is that goldfish grow fast, get HUGE, and eat %26amp; poop a lot even for fish their size. Goldfish need to be in big tanks so that they have enough clean water to grow in.



SO. What CAN be kept in a bowl? Honestly, in my opinion, not much. Bowls aren't an ideal living environment for fish because of their need for stable temperatures and clean water.



You might try snails (some of which are way prettier and more fun to watch than you would think, honest) or shrimp(which are even cooler. I LOVE shrimp.) Both of those would enjoy whatever kind of ivy or lily you want to put in there with them (unlike bettas... that's totally a myth) and aren't nearly as picky about the water conditions as fish are.

Reply:It is really cruel to keep any fish in a bowl.Like all living creatures they need light,constant temperature,and activity and interaction with others,not necessarily of their own kind but another fish.I will suggest you wait until you can afford a proper tank and then enjoy your new hobby.Your fish will thank you and you will enjoy them more as it would be less work.I have been keeping fish a very long time,so do have some experience.Just a thought.And God bless you for the loving care of your other friends(pets).
Reply:very few fish, the buubles made inmost fish tanks by a tube or waterfall give the fish air, without s fresh stream of bubbles the fish would die
Reply:dont put any fish in a bowl! ever been in a port-a-potty? did u like it? in tx those ''bowls'' are sometimes the same price or more than a 10 gallon tank. just get the tank if you want fish.
Reply:bettas or paradise gouramis if you want something a little different. i wouldn't buy anything less than 2 gallons. make sure it has a cover -- especially with the paradise gourami -- they jump.

Reply:none! anyone who told you a betta could was just trying to seel you a betta. bowls are prone to tmeperture shifts and chemical spikes, and even the humble betta needs 5 gallons of heated, filtered water to live.
Reply:If you can't afford a real tank, I really wouldn't suggest getting a fish. I keep all my bettas in at least a 2.5 gallon tank. They should also be kept quite a bit above room temperature (74-84). Bowls are also not a good idea because they are a huge jumping risk.

while everyone will tell you a betta is perfect, it is not. bettas need heaters for a healthy life, unless you keep you room temp around 80*F. while a betta can live up to 7yrs, it's more likely to live only 1-3 in a bowl, even with proper cleaning. oh, and peace lilies are a bad idea, they block the surface which bettas need to breathe.



if you can't afford a real tank, don't get any fish. wait until you have more money. fish have needs too.
Reply:Only bettas. Goldfish are big, dirty fish. Mine are like 8" long and are too big for a 70 gallon tank.



There may be a type of killifish that could live in a 2 gallon tank, but they require lots of attention and die like crazy and are hard to get and expensive.
